A mural of George Floyd in Manchester has been defaced with racist graffiti. Council bosses branded the vandalism “utterly sickening” and an investigation is underway.
George Floyd was killed when a police officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes in Minneapolis. The tribute in Manchester was painted by local artist Aske.
It has since been boarded up for repair and a hand drawn sign underneath the graffiti says “Black Lives Matter! The UK is not innocent!”
Floyd had a criminal record served five-year prison sentence for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. In total, Floyd had been arrested a total of 9 times, mostly on drug and theft charges.
