A teacher at Batley Grammar School has received death threats for allegedly showing cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed during an RE lesson.

The unnamed teacher, in his 20s, is getting support from the police. His neighbour told MailOnline that he left his home at 9.30am yesterday and was rushed into a black vehicle. It is not known if it was an unmarked police car.

Meanwhile, the headteacher kept 980 children at home after 50 Muslim protestors turned up at the school for a second day. Dozens of protestors, all of them men, held prayers and demanded the immediate sacking of the teacher.

One protestor called on the entire British Muslim community to review the materials being taught in their children’s schools.

Education secretary Gavin Williamson has condemned the protests and said schools must be free to show ‘challenging or controversial’ materials in class.
